January 20 (the inauguration of Donald Trump’s presidency) is approaching with giant strides. Some are already chilling champagne, while others feel a cold shiver run down from their necks to where their legs start. Elon Musk is undoubtedly triumphant. His vision of the free flow of information, mass distribution, and the spread of news is bearing fruit. Meanwhile, Mark Zuckerberg, head of Meta, has announced radical changes in the functioning of Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. As part of a new approach to freedom of speech, Meta plans to abandon its current fact-checking mechanisms and introduce new tools designed to make its platforms more politically neutral.
Here we are, witnessing Zuckerberg (the champion of all things galloping into absurdity) waving the white flag! Charles de Gaulle, the last great politician of a France sinking into irrelevance, once said: “In politics, capitulation is often portrayed as compromise, but people always sense the difference.” Yes, that’s true. We sense that subtle difference, which makes it clear that Mr. Zuckerberg isn’t particularly convinced by Mr. Musk’s libertarian arguments but rather possesses a survival instinct that tells him that colliding with an iceberg will inevitably end in catastrophe—even for a ship as large as Facebook. Well, you asked for it, Grzegorz Dyndało! (an ironic expression underscoring that someone is responsible for their own troubles or unfavorable situation).
Meta has also announced the removal of certain restrictions on topics such as immigration or gender issues, which have previously been criticized by conservatives. Meanwhile, Tusk’s pocket regime continues to work on amending the criminal code in the context of hate speech and hate crime laws. The new regulations will include expanded protections for gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, and disability. As we can see, for leftist authoritarians in Europe, it’s total stagnation—no wind fills their sails. Some, more deranged, even threaten Americans, claiming the EU will teach them a lesson. But alas, how disappointing—it seems Mr. Zuckerberg has said, „enough.”
No support or consolation in sight! Both are desperately needed if one wishes to defend the notion that a man can menstruate—or even give birth! Perhaps to a child… This boggles my mind; the thought wanders in an empty void, my brain folds straighten—a perfectly polished cylinder. And that’s why, for fools like me, oppression is necessary. Not to harm me (oh no!), but to make me a better person.
Freedom of speech is a gift not everyone knows how to use wisely (and that is, unfortunately, true), but it doesn’t mean it can be taken away. I thought that after the dark times of communism, this truth was so obvious and self-evident it hurt. But tyranny (even in a pocket-sized form) is always ready to strip us of this freedom, then the next one, and the next… Americans have woken up in time. It’s Europe’s turn.
