At one of the meetings, Rafał „Bonjour” Trzaskowski said: „Anyone who says that Ukraine shouldn’t be in NATO right now is essentially siding with Putin.” And just like that, I’ve been nominated to the League of Russian Bootlickers, because I too believe that Ukraine, as it currently stands, cannot become a member of NATO or the EU!
This isn’t my first nomination. A few months after Russia attacked Ukraine, a consul from one of the Baltic states—someone I personally know—took offense when, in a private conversation, I said Ukraine would not win this war and that Kyiv would lose not only the territories occupied by Russia but also part of its sovereignty as a result of some future agreement. The offense was great! After a year of silence, the consul called to apologize. Apology accepted.
For cooperation to work, there must be shared values represented by all parties involved. If portraits of Hitler were hanging in Bundeswehr barracks today, no sensible Pole would dare claim that we could cooperate with such a Bundeswehr or that such an army could belong to NATO.
Which brings us to the question: Does Rafał „Bonjour” Trzaskowski know what values form the foundation of Ukrainian army morale? Let me spell it out (because he might not know): it’s based on the tradition of OUN-UPA! So, can the Ukrainian army truly belong to NATO while military headquarters might display portraits of Lieutenant General Pavlo Shandruk, the last commander of the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS?
Oh, and one more important point: On September 23, 2020, Ukraine’s Supreme Court ruled that the symbols of the SS Galicia Division are not associated with Nazism and therefore cannot be banned. This position was also supported by the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory. If Shukhevych can hang on the wall, then why (and here a strong expletive comes to mind) not Hitler? After all, they’re cut from the same cloth!
One must know who they are supporting (not to be confused with current military aid for Ukraine) on the path to NATO. Rafał „Bonjour” Trzaskowski apparently wants to spite his grandmother (Nawrocki) by freezing his own ears. It’s foolish, childish, and on the level of playground antics.
